| 1. Boycott fast food! Caloric portions at fast food restaurants are much larger. It's possible to eat a 1,400 calorie meal at Hardee's, for example. (Yipes!) No one needs that. |

2. Eat at home and shop around the perimeter of the grocery store. Unprocessed foods like fish and lean meats, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables are offered around the edges of every grocery store. They contain fiber, vitamins and minerals that processed foods don't. | |

3. Eat a rainbow palate of foods. Steam or sautee fresh greens like baby spinach, chard or kale. Bake fresh squash with a bit of trans-fat free margarine. (Earth Balance and Smart Balance are two great options.) Choose brown rice over white, fish or lean meats over steak or hamburger. Chop red, yellow or green peppers with red onion, sautee them with ground buffalo and taco spices and wrap it all up in a whole wheat tortilla. |

4. No more clean plate club! Most of us learned as children that we'd better finish our dinner or else. But eating more slowly, thoroughly chewing each bite, and listening to your stomach when it begins to tell you it's full will help you on your crusade to healthy, permanent weight loss. |
| 5. Get some exercise! Walk daily, go swimming, join a yoga class. I'm sure you can come up with other alternatives that you'd enjoy just as much. Good luck! |
